The fairies moved Gave moonlight flits Shadow reproved Challenged my wits Gave me the eye I will not lie Sent me flying What happened next Just blew my mind For sitting vexed Who should we find Dripping like wax Was Moon all lax Dissolving fast The fairies rushed To patch him up We watch’d hushed A prayer sent up No moon to court Done be the sport No more romance(ing) He’s melting folks It is a fact Turn back the clocks We need to act No verse, no prose We’ll comatose— Rescue the moon! Don’t for a sec. Think this crazy World events wreck Surreal, spacey What’s to stop Moon Meltdown of doom Who’s fooling who? Remember how it never occurred to any of us that the ever-present vibration of our cosmopolitan cities could ever stop?
Remember how it never occurred to any of us that we’d one day be asked to keep our distance from each other?
Or that travel could ever come to a complete halt?
Do you remember, though? how we were so sure these things could never happen to us? Yet, it came to pass. That, and a whole lot more. And the escalation has reached never before seen proportions.
So who’s to say that the moon could never have a meltdown? If we continue in the same trajectory this could happen in our lifetime. Another apocalyptic experience— no thanks!
We want our cities to pulsate with verve again but in a way that won’t land us here ever again. So this time, we need to go green.
If it’s still not too late if it’s still up to us to stop something like that from happening wouldn’t you get on board to learn of ways to right the scales? To learn how to reduce our carbon footprint? I know you want to do your share. Let’s learn together. One for all, all for one!

My poem takes on a light tone, but that’s not because I take what’s happening lightly–Far from it: I feel. The post was written for Earthweal–Consciousness Raising, and

Selma, we are so happy you shared your words at earthweal. I’m with you – Green Energy all the way! If only leaders could stop worrying about the economy and make the switch – imagine all the clean green jobs there would be helping the earth recover. We live in hope. Loved your poem.
We live in hope: make the switch – to clean green jobs to help the earth recover. We live in hope. Thanks for the comment, Sherry.
And sorry about the comment glitch. I’m still glad you liked the poem. I will return.
My comment disappeared. Blogger and wordpress have incompatibilities……..Selma, I am so glad you shared your poem at earthweal. I’m with you – clean Green energy all the way! Can you imagine how many jobs there’d be if leaders would start making the transition? Sigh. Hope we see you again at earthweal.
I enjoyed your poem a great deal. We are caught up in a massive meltdown right now. I agree, we need to change our ways.
Hey, Suzanne. So glad for your visit. I really appreciate it. Let’s write more stories that matter.
((Sorry about the comment disappearing before your eyes. I’ve fixed that 😃))
Hi Selma. Glad you fixed the comment glitch. I’m writing an eco novel at present. It should be published later this year at my current work rate. 🙂
Sounds great. I wonder where it’s based on. I’d like to read that novel.
All the best to you.
Speaking novels I just finished a round of revisions on my fictional women’s story. Not ready for the world,!but close.
Let me know more about yours. Good. Luck.
Yes, I’m not ready to publish yet either. I’m at the tail end of the 2nd draft which involved a massive rewrite. I haven’t written a synopsis yet. I’ve published a couple of snippets on my blog. Here’s a link to one . https://mappinguncertainty.wordpress.com/2021/05/06/wayfaring/
Good luck with your novel. It’s good to make contact with other writers. Keep me posted on your progress. 🙂
Thanks, Suzanne. You’re kind. Appreciate you.
I checked. Loved. 👏 two websites? Amazing. All the best.
I’m not sure what happened to my comment. I enjoyed your poem. We are indeed faced with a meltdown. Switching to eco friendly practices is essential.
Lovely poem, Selma, it carries such an important message too!
Thanks for reading Chris. Yes. An important message.
I appreciate you.
Selma, I love your form and the sentiments expressed within it:
He’s melting folks
It is a fact
Turn back the clocks
We need to act
And we need to act now! I just don’t get all the excuses that industry needs time to adapt: it’s adapt or perish, and the time is now!
Great to see you at earthweal 🌎
I have you to thank for this. Thank you. earthweal speaks to me. Though I must confess I don’t get the posting/participating schedule yet. Feeling a bit lost. But I’ll return often.
Weekly prompts? I think so.
Thanks for reading and commenting, Ingrid. I appreciate you. xoxo
You’re most welcome Selma! There’s a weekly prompt posted on Mondays, and every weekend is Open Link 🙂
Beautiful, impassioned, and so true. 💜
Glad you agree, J. Thanks for reading. Be well. xo
A wonderful message, Selma! And I love how you used the ha’sonnet form to set it up!
Hi. You came to read and that makes me giddy. Yes, a string of Ha’ sonnets for this one. So glad you liked it and appreciated the message. Be well, my friend.
