Still, I Rise– A Badger Hexastitch #tankatuesday

I Rise

mood swings
bipolar sky
the tar sidewalk mocks me
the wind swoops in, shifts me
so fast I sprout
new wings

Written for Word Craft Poetry’s Tanka Tuesday Challenge where Colleen says:

💘 Happy Palentine’s Day! 💘

This week’s challenge is Synonyms Only. That means you have to select synonyms
for the two words below. You can’t use the two words… instead, you must choose two
synonyms for the words I gave you and use them in your poem.

Change & Grow

My synonyms are

Shift & Sprout

My poetry form from the cheat sheet is

Badger’s Hexastich

A Badger Hexastich consists of six lines written in 2-4-6-6-4-2 syllables per
line. It is unrhymed with optional rising and falling end-words, which I think
is an interesting twist. Don’t forget to add a title.

💘

For My Valentine:

For My Palentines:

The main poem, I Rise, is an encouragement poem for you– a reminder of the power
you carry within. Happy Palentine’s Day (I copied this reference from Colleen) and then
came up with another poem:

Let us make merry
Lovely friends of mine,
For one day, let’s not hurry
All virtues, most divine
Shine brightest in you, Palentine
xoxo

Thanks for reading and have a most splendid day today,
however, you decide to celebrate.

Love, love your poetry, Selma! I’ve never heard of this form before. So beautiful and Happy belated Valentine’s Day! ❤️❤️

    1. Selma Martin

Hi, my sweets, blessings on your evening. I’d never heard of any of these forms, ((apart from the traditional Haiku)) before finding Colleen Chesebro’s welcoming site. I’ve learned so much and grown (hopefully) from working on her prompts and guidance.
Lauren, if you ever want to try, do join in. So much to gain. Tons to learn— slowly.
I love Colleen. Her mention of something called NaPoWriMo in 2021 added years to my enthusiast’s soul. Gosh… do you know NaPo in April? I will try to participate again but we’ll see. I have a childhood friend come visit in April. We will see.
Glad you liked this Badger Hexastich (misspelled in Title 😢) blessings.

      1. Baydreamer - Lauren Scott

I’ve heard of NaPoWriMo, Selma, but I have so many projects right now that I wouldn’t have the time. I’m currently working on my next book of poetry to be released in April, I hope, along with working on two children’s books and some short stories. When will there be more than 24 hours in a day? 🙂 Loved this form. I also know of Haiku and tanka and some others, but have never heard of Badger Hexastich. Have a wonderful weekend ahead. 💗💗💐

        1. Selma Martin

          A book? Another! April 👍🏼
I will help. I’ll be busy then but do Let me know how and I’ll set aside a li’l time for it. You gotta tell me what kind of help— promise!
          Amazing things you’re doing. Wow!
I bless all your endeavors 👼
Come join the fun of the prompts anytime you like. I’ll be cheering you on.
As for an extension to the 24 hours? — rockets go to the moon and all but I doubt we’ll ever see a change on those set hours…
          Blessing.

          1. Baydreamer - Lauren Scott

Oh, thank you, Selma! You’re so kind! Thanks for the invitation to try the prompts. And I love your comment about rockets going to the moon, but more hours in a day? Most likely not! 🙂 xo
