At sunup, she steals o'er the horizon for a moment, perches between the blinds slowly she tiptoes to my pillow and on my eyelashes spends the day One dawn, I met her in the forest bright-eyed come breaming at the break of day but that day, she tended to the flowers and me-- she set me all aglow Since then, she's waited for me outside long tunnels and each time she has brought with her that otherworldly scent that lifts me up, affirming that I'm not alone and shows me the way to go home One rainy summer, she made me the happiest ever when she let me glance inside the lining of her coat: a rainbow of blinding light as I'd never seen another avowal that warms my toes She's the one who will slide off a full moon to land gently at your feet like a gasp or from stars or fireflies that thrill so you're never afraid at night And at bedtime, at lights out when the dark is deepest, you'll still smell her in your room, under the shade of the lamp like a bright idea you can use in the morn when you'll find her perched by the windowsill or lain close, sweetly-- she'll make you blink *** © 2022 selmamartin.com
May there be light.
May there always be light.
And may the sentiment extend to the leaders of Russia and North Korea.
Firstly, may the people of Ukraine wake up to a new day where peace prevails. And secondly, seeing how the leader of North Korea keeps taunting my adopted country with missiles on such a regular basis, I cannot but ask the universe to align with my wishes at this crucial point in history, too: No copycats. No escalations, please.
May despots’ proclivity for greed and power cease to be.
“Keep watch with the angels, the stars and moon;
For freedom comes tomorrow’s noon.”
~ Lines from my country’s national anthem.

The way you write is so inviting. Opening my eyes to the world of words you present us with. Thanks for being you! I still see as the young 20 something girl I met many years ago, may our ties remain strong. Your words of prayer and peace for this word are my reminder to think of others and temper them in prayer tonight as I lay my head in my peaceful room! Much love 💕

So well said, Selma. What a stunning, multi-sensory visual poem. I found comfort in it. Love the whole thing, especially the last three stanzas. Hope you are okay. It is such a troubling time <3
This is a lovely poem. I followed a link from Holly. When I saw your avatar, I exclaimed, “I know her! She always comments on Holly’s blog!” 😂
Your exhortation to despots was very moving.
Cheers,
Mitch
Hey, Mitch. Small world withing this small blogging world, I say… hehe. Any friend of Holly’s is a welcome presence here. Thanks for reading and commenting on this post. Yes, the despots thing… everyone and everything has a purpose they say, I wonder what their role in the great scheme of things is…
Thanks for being here. Come often. Sending you blessings.
