First and foremost, a heartfelt thank you to Editor Barbara Harris Leonhard
for giving my little poem a warm nesting place in her magazine on the World
Wide Web.
For those unfamiliar with Masticadores USA, here’s a #writerslift
- The English editions of Masticadores are breaking records in views.
- In 2024, the Masticadores family has grown to many magazines around
the world. Juan Re Crivello expects our total views to reach 400,000 by
December 2024.
“We primarily publish writers who write in English and are based in the USA.
However, while the publication language remains English, we also welcome the
work of our fellow writers from all over the world.
What do we want to bring to our readers? Edgar Allan Poe once wrote: Poetry
is the rhythmical creation of beauty in words. This is what we are committed to
bringing to you. And that’s not an easy endeavor.” ~ Masticadores Homepage

Here’s how my poem begins:
There are no abbeys in my town
no dwarfing buildings nor a basilica
but there’s a library with wrinkled books
—weathered and as old as time,
that hold the sweet smell of yesterday.
There are no fancy cafes to sit outdoors,
the sandflies: a given that comes with the sun.
There’s salt air that sticks to your hair
and clothes, and the scented oil of empanadas.
Mother sneezes when I get home
but doesn’t ask about my whereabouts;
it’s just as well– she already knows!
and the Herculean fly on the wall… (continues…)
I hope this snippet piques your fancy, and if so, I ask
you to kindly head over to Masticadores to
read it “whole”.
You can also
obtain
submission details on the same trip.
It’s scheduled to debut by 4:00 am CST today, October 12 with this link:
