W3 POETIC DEVICE: Onomatopoeia—Prompt #112

A gurgling river of bile ran inside her
after their wahooing like female baboons
making copulation calls.
But she was determined to show them
their buffoonery did nothing to her
self-esteem.
Demurely, she slipped to the farthest
picture window, opened it wide and
looked out at the dark sea.
The tall trees made a lovely pattern
against the milky night sky and the
swooshing of the palms,
accompanied by the impressive
ice-breaking whoosh-whooshing
sound of the roiling sea, awakened
her senses to a new ambience
in the beauty of night.

Okie dokie ~ Let’s do this thing!

I. The prompt poem by this week’s PoW:

‘Fabric of a Muse’, a poem by Jude Itakali

It’s a little bit funny…

II. Jude’s prompt guidelines:

• FORM: Haibun

• POETIC DEVICE: Onomatopoeia (3x)

• THEME: “The Beauty of Night”

According to the Oxford dictionary, onomatopoeia is the ‘formation of a word which describes its sound’. It is a poetic device that adds sound to your poem.

haibun is a poem that consists of one or more paragraphs of prose written in a concise, imagistic style. The prose is accompanied by one or more haiku.

This week’s challenge is to write a haibunpoem under the theme of “the beauty of night”, and include not one but THREE onomatopoeia words in either your prose or haikus. I encourage you to explore the beauty of night from your own personal experiences, but feel free to indulge in a steamy fiction romance, in nature, philosophy, astronomy, or whatever floats your boat.

Thanks for reading my prose haibun.

And please don’t forget to drop me a message if you wish to read In The Shadow of Rainbows. 😉 💝 🌈

    Lovely!
Your first few lines remind me of a visit to the zoo, where those noises were clear for all to hear 😉

And then you took us to a peaceful place, maybe not geographically, but certainly emotionally.
And then another twist, at least for me. How to reconcile cowboy boots with ice-breaking of the roiling sea… It doesn’t match my Texan experience 😉

    Beautifully done!

    1. Selma Martin

Thanks so very much. Glad you entered the poem like you did. 🤗 (who am I hugging) 🤔
