24 Seasons Syllabic Poetry Challenge No. 35, 5/21/24, Part I, Fine Weather

“…and the blue sky
was awash with
colorless peacocks,”

~ Kenji Miyazawa, Preface to Spring and Ashura
***

This week for #TankaTuesday we’re in the second week of the season of Fine
Weather: May 20 – June 5, as we follow the 24 Seasons of Japan. The dates are
based off of the lunisolar calendar, often called an agricultural calendar. The
traditional Chinese and Japanese lunisolar calendar divides a year into 24
solar terms.

This is the first week of Fine Weather in the Northern Hemisphere.

Your syllabic poetry writing invitation is to choose a kigo word or phrase from the
seasonal kigo list on the post. Or you can select from the summer category, for the
Northern Hemisphere, or the kigo words that work for the Southern Hemisphere.
Use the 500 Kigo Words on the kigo word list links below. Share your kigo word on
your post. If you write freestyle poetry, you must share a syllabic form, that
includes a kigo word.
You must use one kigo word or phrase in your syllabic poem. If you share a kigo word or

phrase in your freestyle poem, you must include a kigo word or phrase in your syllabic
poem.
You DO NOT have to write a haiku. You can create a poem from the 24 forms listed.

(We all know only haiku and haibun require kigo season words). This challenge uses the
kigo words for inspiration.

Earth Green, Sky Blue

A change
of wear for when
earth is green, sky is blue
and empty, empty is
the sky for sky
larks to

fly through.
Thrilled with the warmth
of May is the moth that
is a flower--rich with
June's oath. My heart
grows wings.

And when
summer sizzles
and it’s too hot to breathe
I will think of blue skies,
handsome weather
of spring.

“A Badger’s Hexastich consists of six lines written in 2-4-6-6-4-2 syllables per line.
It is unrhymed with optional rising and falling end-words, which I think is an
interesting twist. Don’t forget to add a title.”
~ Colleen

Thanks for reading and may you have blue skies too.
HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY.

Summer will sizzle. I’m sure I’ll be wishing for spring… so glad you enjoyed it, Lauren. Bless you. Hope all’s well with you. I’m catching up finally. It never is fun being sick. I’m still hoarse and have recovered my appetite. and being allergic to penicillin as I am, the new meds hurt my stomach so much. Not pleasant.
Bless you dear Lauren. And good night from me. 🤗
